Sunday Cookouts are all the rage

Kgoplo Mantsho, founder of Sunday Cookout says its about to get bigger and better when the movement turns 3!

KwaThema – Sunday Cookout has popularised the street market scene in Kwatsaduza and is now a household name.

“Sunday Cookout, the movement was born in 2014 and had its first event on the 28th of September in KwaThema,” explains Kgopolo Mantsho, its founder.

He says the idea was brought about by the fact that although his first partner was a chef, and still is, most people didn’t know his occupation.

“It got me thinking about how many other young people in KwaTsaDuza own their own businesses but the community did not know about them. I wanted to bridge the gap.”

Kgopolo then created a platform for entrepreneurs (chefs, fashion designers, graphic designers, visual artists, musicians) so they could express themselves and reach their target markets.

He says that initially people did not respond to the idea.

“I wanted them to be free and not feel judged because they were around like-minded peers and had a place where they could show off their crafts and skills.”

This September Sunday Cookout is celebrating its third birthday with a star-studded line-up.

“The event will take place on September 30, at Endaweni in Geluksdal, our usual spot.

It will be special because we don’t usually have so many musical acts performing on the same day.”

Kgopolo encourages entrepreneurs to book stalls for the day, before it is too late.
