Home Sweepers sweep tournament

“We also appreciate the help of Springs Local Football Association for allowing the players to practice and play with the male teams."

KwaThema – The soccer team from Springs Home Sweepers Academy continues to make their fans proud, even when playing away games.

Over the weekend the team participated in the Andisiwe Mgcoyi Women’s Tournament hosted in Alexandra.

The u-15 team was crowned champion of the tournament after winning 3-1 against Diepkloof Ladies.

Team coach, Mkhonza Mkhonzana, says the u-17s achieved the third position but, unfortunately, did not make it to the finals.

“We are proud of the girls because three of our players walked away with prizes.

“Gugulethu Nkosi won best defender of the tournament, Samukelisiwe Twala was the middle fielder and top goal scorer of the tournament, while Portia Masilela was crowned best player of the tournament,” he says.

Mkhonzana says the players are displaying good skills on the pitch because of their dedication to the sport.

“We also appreciate the help of Springs Local Football Association for allowing the players to practise and play with the male teams.

“This helps them to improve and master skills and also helps with their development,” he says.

Mkhozana says they are inviting young girls to join the team.

“Girls from different ages – especially the young, are invited. We believe it is better to groom them when they are still young.

“Those interested can contact me on 072 254 2075,” he says.
