Library programme to promote reading and knowledge

Duduza Library played host to the Duduza Book Launch last Saturday.

Duduza – Duduza Library played host to the Duduza Book Launch last Saturday.

In July, Radical Arts Forum with the author Duduzile Sokhele held a workshop with the aim of using literature to empower the community.

Sokhele, a social worker by profession, committed to reviving a culture of reading by starting a book club.

“I am disappointed at the state of this place because I used to study here (Duduza Library).

That is why I will use every avenue available to me to make this library function to its full capacity.”

She then used her influence to call on other academics from Duduza to support the initiative by donating books.

Setjhaba Msibi, motivational speaker, designer and author of Power Within You, says the book club is unlike any other.

“This is not just about meeting and swapping books.

“It is a platform for people to get information about things that matter to them.

“We want to open the door to new opportunities by giving people the right information.”

Msibi says the club has clear goals that will be easy to keep track of.

“We will be keeping a close eye on the people who come through, and in a few months, we want to see a tangible change in their lives, careers and businesses.”

Emily Dlamini, a teacher who also went to school in Duduza, says she is happy to help young people achieve their goals.

Dlamini donated uniforms to Indlunkulu Theatre Organisation.

“The guys gave a great performance.

“I only want to encourage them to do better.”
