Armed men rob local garage

"The men tried to break down the door to the kiosk but they failed because the door was too strong and properly locked."

KwaThema – At least two men robbed the BP garage in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It is alleged the cashier was assisting a customer when an unknown man knocked on the window with a firearm.

KwaThema police spokesperson Capt Thabo Sibuyi says the complainant then saw another man breaking the sliding door with an iron bar.

“The cashier managed to lock the door of the kiosk and pressed the panic button. The men tried to break down the door to the kiosk.

“But they failed because the door was too strong and properly locked.”

According to Sibuyi the workers were threatened with firearms.

“The men told the petrol station staff to lie down on the floor.

“The cashier was forced to open the door.

“The robbers stole two cartons of cigarettes while the other one was busy trying to break open the safe.

“While the workers were still on the floor, they heard a loud bang coming from the office as the robbers were cracking the safe open.

“The suspects fled the scene with the money that was piled into the money bags,” he says.

Sibuyi says they are investigating a case of business robbery and no one has been arrested.
