“The youth is turning into zombies!”

“Reach for Life Support” is focusing at addressing drug and substance abuse within the community of Kwatsaduza by providing aftercare services.

Tsakane – Reach for Life Support is focusing on addressing drug and substance abuse within the community of Kwatsaduza by providing aftercare services.

“When someone is ready to quit, they need more than ever, a good support system.

Households have been destroyed; young people are turning into human zombies,” says founder Mthuthuzeli Skosana.

He says the organisation does not have offices to provide services on a daily basis, but rely on home visits to see their clients.

“We are directly affected by drug use in communities because we are a marginalised society.

“We need to stop looting and burning or destroying what we have. Instead, we must utilise litigation to enforce our constitutional rights whilst protecting what we have built and achieved this far.

“We are really hoping that the metro will come to our assistance and provide us with facilities so that people know exactly where to find us,” he explains.

He believes substance abuse contributes to the abuse of women and children.

“The country is faced with high poverty and unemployment because politicians are not doing their jobs.

The poor people are becoming poorer; drug mules have hijacked our country right under the noses of those claiming to be our leaders.

Our leaders are in Canaan whilst we are still in Egypt.”

Skosana says the call is for the community to unite as “we did in the fight against HIV/AIDS”.

“Our communities are stagnant or rusty; our duty is to redesign communities we desire. We need a drug free society.”
