Police call for fight against domestic violence

“We have officers who are well trained to execute the functions of a social worker and will know how to help those in need".

Duduza- The police have identified the rise in cases of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm in the recent weeks.

The statistics released by Duduza SAPS indicate that most of the cases which were reported were related to domestic violence.

Duduza police spokesperson, Sgt Harry Manaka, says there was over 65 per cent of assault cases as based on recorded incidents.

Manaka says the station joined forces with metro police, Department of Social Development and Department of Health and took the campaign to the community of Job Dube.

“This is a community where most cases of violent abuse are reported.

“As part of our battle plan to fight domestic violence we decided to embark on an awareness campaign to educate community members about domestic violence.

“For us to win the battle against domestic violence we have to first inform those who are vulnerable and don’t know what domestic violence is.

“They also need to know about the available channels available to report the perpetrator,” he says.

Manaka says through the engagement with the community they also shared safety tips and emergency numbers.

“We are calling to those trapped in violent relationships to report the matter to their nearest police stations.

“We have officers who are well trained to execute the functions of a social worker and they will know how to help those in need.

“The time for protecting the perpetrators is in the past. They also need your help to fight the monster forcing them to hurt others,” he says.
