More chaplains needed for training

“The recent attack on women and children show that our people are lost in sin".

KwaThema – Community members who are interested in becoming chaplains are invited to enroll for training.

Interested people will be trained as chaplains and linked to the different forces within the SAPS, EMPD and SANDF.

Miesi Matsepo-Nong from the National Interfaith Council of South Africa says there is a need for more chaplains and pastors to be trained to help the community deal with the challenges they are facing.

“This will better equip them to help community members who are affected in helping them follow the appropriate channels to get help.

“The recent attacks on women and children show that our people are lost in sin.

“They don’t have the conscience to control their emotions and actions.

“Women are mostly abused and violated in churches and don’t know which channels to follow to lodge complains.

“But with chaplains who are better trained and understand the law this would be a thing of the past,” she says.

She says they need pastors who will go to schools, churches and NGOs to educate the people about the importance of love, respect and care for their fellow brothers and sisters.

“We are saying enough is enough and want to contribute to bringing the change we want to see in our communities.

“We need to go back to the basics and gain the trust of the pastors to take over leadership and guide people,” she says.
