Thumamina Courier Service a huge success

Amagents start courier service out of desperation and now it becoming a household name ekasi.

Tsakane – Amagents start courier service out of desperation and now it has become a household name, ekasi.

Thabang Dhlamini (22), Mashao Mogale (23), Sibusiso Mdluli (27) and three other friends started #Thumamina Flamboyant Courier Service after they struggled to find work.

“We were part of a learnership programme that was going nowhere really, so we came up with this idea,” explains Dhlamini.

Thumamina means ‘send me’.

And the guys used the relationships they had with their neighbours to build the business.

“People always sent us to run their errands, and then they would reward us with small change when we come back.

We just made it more official by giving them specific rates,” says Sibusiso.

Amagents use bicycles to make their way around Tsakane for their clients.

“Initially we wanted to buy scooters because they are faster.

But we did not have the capital,” adds Mashao.

Although they started with two bicycles, Thumamina now has six.

“We can say that we are now all employed full-time.

The business is doing really well because every morning we are woken up by clients placing orders,” adds Mdluli.

“We want to branch out into the rest of Kwatsaduza and have our boys on the streets everywhere,” says Mogale.

Dhlamini explains that one of their greatest challenges is the maintenance of their bikes.

“Most of them were not created for rough turns, so we wear them out quite easily.

We need to get ones that can handle the work we do every day.”

Promise Shungubane, a kota shop owner says that working with the guys has been a blessing.

“Before they started here, I used to close the shop during the day to buy stock.

But now I never have to leave the store or disappoint my customers because the guys bring me what I need throughout the day.”

Shungubane adds that they even help her out on Sundays, which she didn’t expect.

Another happy client is Mam Lindiwe Nxumalo, a baker.

“I am just glad that they don’t tear my packets of flour.

“They bring it to me in tact every time.”
