Fun Youth Day at Langaville Library

The youth of Langaville gathered to comemorate June 16 by putting their talents on display at the Langaville Library.

Langaville – Langaville and Springs libraries brought young people together to celebrate Youth Day, on June 16, and to give them a platform to showcase their talents.

‘We are not drunks, we are artists’ was the theme of the day.

“There is a need to remind the youth and the rest of society of what the youth of 1976 fought for,” says Mpumelelo Dube, one of the organisers.

He says the youth end up involved in drugs and alcohol because they have no platforms to express themselves.

“What better place is there than the local library?

“We have room to do all the activities safely.”

Langaville Library was officially opened on March 23, 2015, by former Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality executive mayor Mondli Gungubele.

Gumboot dancing and music performances by Zagga and Black Sunday were among the activities of the day.

Local comedian Castro kept the crowd laughing.

Dark City Entertainment soothed the audience with poetry.

Pastor Doris Kgasi motivated the young people to stay off the streets and hone their crafts instead.

“You must never take for granted the opportunities that are available to you now.

“A great price was paid for them.”

Librarian Papadi Mahlonaholo urged the community to make good use of the facilities provided by the state.

“The library belongs to all of us.

“Use it to nourish yourself with the information that is freely available to you.”

Girls from Extensions Two and Three met in a netball clash. The Ext 2 team won the match.
