Church and residents take their concerns to the police’s doorstep

Concerned residents and churches marched to the KwaThema Police station to plead for police to beef-up security in the community.

KwaThema – Residents and members of the Apostolic Reformed Church marched to the local police station on Saturday to hand over a memorandum of grievances.

On top of the list of grievances was their sadness over the brutal killing of women and children in the area.

They shared their desire of wanting to feel protected by the police, following these recent attacks, and wanting to work with the police.

Furthermore, they appealed for the justice system and the CPF to join hands to ensure the safety of residents.

Pastor Adelaide Polo, of the Apostolic Reformed Church, read the memorandum to the station’s management.

Some of the recommendations included the visibility of the police, quick response to complaints, more random searches, patrols around schools and road blocks.

KwaThema station commander Col Elsie Malapane says she appreciates the effort taken by the community to voice their concerns.

She further urged the community to continue coming forward with any kind of information that can help them solve crime.

This can be done through the local police or through the 0800 10111 Crime Stop number (which offers the option of remaining anonymous).

KwaThema police spokesperson Capt Thabo Sibuyi confirmed the management of the station is in the process of discussing a way forward regarding the community’s grievances and will provide feedback.
