Bootcamp to help residents adopt a healthy lifestyle

KwaThema - Fitness fanatics braved the winter chills during the Bootcamp#1 session held at Bulithando Park on Saturday morning.

The event is aimed at encouraging people in the area to start exercising, keeping fit and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Event organiser, Matumelo Tjabadi, says she was concerned about the level of obesity in townships.

“When I asked around I was told that they cannot afford gym fees.

“There are also more fast food outlets than gyms in the townships.

“We want to make a healthy fit lifestyle trend,” she says.

Matumelo says through the bootcamp even people who cannot go to the gym during the week can find time to exercise.

“Our sessions are free and people of all ages can attend.

“There is no longer a reason why people don’t exercise.

“We want people to know that many illnesses can be avoided if people lead a healthy lifestyle,” she says.

Nhlanhla Nhlapo says she is happy she had the opportunity to exercise.

“I work odd hours and I could only go to the gym once a week and gym memberships were pointless and a waste of my money.

“I decided to cancel my membership and try to exercise at home but even this was a challenge because I was not always motivated.

“I am happy that I can exercise free of charge and don’t have to travel to get to the gym,” she says.
