Police warning: Thugs target Wi-Fi users at hot spots

KwaThema – The police are warning young people to be careful of Wi-Fi hot spot thugs.

This after a Langaville resident (26) was robbed of her school tablet by two unknown men.

According to KwaThema police spokesman, Captain Thabo Sibuyi, the young woman was walking home along Joe Mzamande Street in Extension Four.

“At around 4.55pm two unknown men walked towards her. One grabbed her while the other searched her schoolbag.

“The duo then took the tablet and ran off on foot,” he says.

Sibuyi says they are warning young people to avoid using their tablets and cellphones in public spaces.

“They should also avoid using the public Wi-Fi hot spots because criminals target them there.

“Those who are frequently seen doing this become easy targets for criminals,” he says.
