Trio hijack car and kidnap its owner

KwaThema – A man (24) was allegedly hijacked and kidnapped last Friday.

The driver of a red Toyota Tazz was allegedly stopped by three unknown men at 7pm.

They asked him for a lift to a nearby pub in Kgaswane Street.

One of the suspects sitting behind the driver grabbed him by the throat while the other two suspects pulled out firearms and ordered him to drive.

Realising he was being hijacked, the driver allegedly attempted to drive straight towards a house.

One of the trio leaned towards the driver’s side and stamped on the brakes.

SAPS spokesman Capt Thabo Sibuyi says the suspect behind the driver got out of the vehicle and forced the driver into the back seat.

The car was then driven to Selcourt, where the man was tied up with a rope.

The trio drove around and got stuck in the mud. They then allegedly began to argue and left the scene.

Sibuyi says just as the driver managed to untie himself, the trio reappeared.

“The driver was tied up again, but later managed to untie himself and fled to a main road leading to Springs.”

The vehicle was not recovered.
