Stop men abuse

KwaThema - A group of concerned residents has joined hands to fight against men abuse.

They have formed a group called Stop Men Abuse, which fights for the rights of men.

The founder, Caswell Gxowa, says that men abuse is one of the growing challenges that we face in society today.

“A lot of men in the community are abused by their spouses; and in the workplace, by their female colleagues.

“They are raped; they are harassed by women and sometimes when they report the matter to the police they are laughed at.

“As a survivor of abuse, I understand that it is hard to open up about being abused as a man.

“We fear that we don’t want to be perceived as weak – we would rather die in silence,” he says.

Caswell says that that was why he decided to call on the residents in the area to join him in fighting for male victims of abuse.

“We support men in court, and help solve some of their spousal challenges.

“We decided to join hands with some of the law-enforcement departments – which includes the police, members of the CPF, and the KwaThema court – to help fight against this.

“We have an office in the KwaThema Police Station that attends to all the cases that do not qualify to go to court, especially abuse and marital challenges,” he says.

Caswell says that men also have rights and should be protected like other citizens of this country.

“I am worried that when a woman reports a case of abuse they come out in numbers, but when it is a man they don’t even respond.

“We are saying that enough is enough; men also have rights and must be treated fairly,” he says.

Caswell says that residents who need their help and intervention can visit their office in the KwaThema Police Station or call him on 073 5349 621.
