Ngcobo receives bursary to Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls

Tsakane – The efforts of local teacher Nomvula Msibi have seen youngster Buhle Ngcobo (13) being awarded a bursary to study at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls.

Msibi, who teaches at Sizuzile Primary School in Tsakane, says she has been assisting top achieving learners from various schools within the area to get bursaries from numerous institutions.

“Since 2015 I have been playing a role in retrieving and distributing application forms for such learners while also helping them with the application processes as I want them to have a brighter future.

“I further help in encouraging them to attain better results during the course of the year and help monitor their performance.

“This at least pushes them in the right direction so they can stand a chance of earning bursaries for their high school education at some of the best high schools in the country,” she says.

Assisted by Msibi’s efforts, Ngcobo who is a former learner from Mandlethu Primary School, has been awarded a bursary to study at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls.

On Friday the youngster left home to prepare for the start of her new academic year at the academy where she is doing her Grade Eight, from January 16.

“I feel very happy but also scared to start a life without my family.

“At this time I just hope to enjoy it since I will be doing Grade Eight and Nine and thereafter must apply for a bursary again.

“Thank you so much to teacher Msibi who has assisted me to get this far as I would have never had this opportunity on my own,” says Ngcobo.

Msibi says she wishes the young girl all the best in her studies and hopes that she will make her family and community proud by achieving great results and representing Tsakane well.
