Empower young girls to dream big

KwaThema – Propelled by a mission of guiding young girls to know their worth, Ikusasa Lethu Foundation has officially been launched.

The celebrations were conducted at KwaThema recently and present were young and old women, who came to motivate young girls on how to maintain a high self-esteem and know their self-worth, even under life’s tougher circumstances.

Founder Thandazo Mabena explains that Ikusasa Lethu Foundation seeks to help young girls and assist them in achieving great things in life – and to never settle for less, even when life seems hard and unfair.

“Children have always been a big part of my life and I’ve always felt that I could relate to them, because of my own life experiences.

“I believe they can learn from my experience, as I don’t want then to make the same mistakes I made as a teenager,” she says.

Mabena says though she had the vision in 2011, but didn’t know what to do about it since then, through visions, prayer and advice, the full concept finally came to her in May.

“So far we’ve reached out to KwaThema, Delmas and Mkhanqwa, while our next visit will be to QwaQwa early next year.

“We plan to meet with these girls aged nine to 18 years old at least once every month, where we’ll hand out toiletries, sanitary towels and also engage with them on challenges they face on a daily basis, as young girls.

“We’re also in the process of getting a qualified psychologist and social worker, to assist us during these meetings with the girls,” she says.
