Top achievers get recognition

KwaThema – Fred Habedi Primary School held its annual Dorothy Teke Library Awards last Tuesday.

According to the school staff, these awards have been held annually since 2008 to reward the school’s best readers and outstanding academics achievers per grade.

The children are awarded with certificates and clothing vouchers worth R 3 000 each, by a former learner of the school, Mike Teke.

“Teke revamped one of the old classrooms and turned it into a library, in 2008.

“His goal was and still is, to improve the quality of reading, learning and of acquiring knowledge for the learners.

“Therefore, he went on to employ a full time librarian for the school in 2014, to ensure the smooth running of this library and its proper management,” explains librarian Kamogelo Kgasoane.

She says every year, Teke also ensures he buys books for the school and any other library material the school library needs. He’s been a great support to the school, always going an extra mile for it and the learners.

This year’s top readers per grade were:

• Grade R – Mahlatsi Leeuw.

• Grade One – Oratile Jiyane.

• Grade Two – Tumisang Motaung.

• Grade Three – Lethukuthula Mavimbela.

• Grade Four – Gontse Molautse.

• Grade Five – Julia Mogamisi.

• Grade Six – Siphesihle Mbalathi.

• Grade Seven – Thuto Kgomare.

And the top achievers per grade included:

• Grade R – Oratile Ramaesa.

• Grade One – Njabulo Hlophe.

• Grade Two – Tumisang Motaung.

• Grade Three – Samukelisiwe Nyosana.

• Grade Four – Kgaugelo Goretetseng and Oratile Sibanyoni.

• Grade Five – Tshiamo Molamu.

• Grade Six – Florina Moahluli.

• Grade Seven – Mmamaiketso Tilodi.

School principal Nomvula Madi says the school would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for all the wonderful things, that Teke is forever doing for Fred Habedi Primary School.

“May God forever bless him and his family for always putting others first,” she says.
