Taiwanese Embassy donates 58 wheelchairs to locals

Duduza - The David Bopape Parliamentary Constituency Office in conjunction with the Taiwanese Embassy and the Mondy Motloung Foundation celebrated Disability Awareness Month.

The celebrations were conducted at the Duduza Multi-Purpose Centre last Friday.

“Every year November until the first week of December is declared and dedicated by the South African government as the month to celebrate and observe the rights of people living with disabilities.

“To mark the disability rights and the awareness month, these three partners hosted an awareness day for the community for Duduza and its surrounding areas.

“This was done under the theme: ‘Persons with disabilities – equal participants in shaping a sustainable future’,” explains Member of Parliament Ezekiel “Sakie” Kekana.

As a gesture of goodwill and to entrench good relations between South Africa and the Republic of Taiwan, the Taiwanese embassy donated 58 wheelchairs to celebrate the rights of people with disabilities to equality, mobility and accessibility.

On the day Kekana and Taiwan Deputy Ambassador Che-Wa Shih handed over five wheelchairs to the identified beneficiaries.

The rest of the wheelchairs will be delivered to various organisations of people with disabilities.
