KwaThema’s own modelling agency

KwaThema - The love of arts, fashion, photography, modeling, clothing and music has united a group of KwaThema youngsters.

Seeing the need and opportunity, Steven ‘Vavo Vogue’ Monoki (21) became the master mind who started a modeling agency in his township to accommodate this.

“I’ve been a rapper for some time now and doing this, we used to have a lot of photo shoots.

“But because we were also touring a lot, people started gaining an interest in our work.

“So I started thinking of sharing my work of photo shoots and clothing,” he says.

He then began working with Wendy Nontle Spayire (21) and other people fell more in love with what they saw.

Monoki says more people started making contact with him, wanting to be part of the photo shoots.

“This is where the idea of a modeling agency came in and that is where Vogue Models came about,” he says.

The group currently do events, fashion shows, branding, photo shoots and music videos.

And from starting with only one model, the young man says he now has 30 people signed under his label.

“Everything is going well, though the challenge we face is of lack of funding.

“This then means we must dig into our pockets to pay for makeup artists and photographers.

“We are however grateful, that we do get bookings,” he says.

He also reveals that they are currently busy with a magazine and a fashion label that will strictly focus on his models and all the work they do.

“But all these projects are in serious need of cash injection.”

Spayire describes herself as a financial management student, with a deep love of fashion.

“I joined Monoki as I love showing off my body and style of fashion.

“Through this I want to educate young people about fashion and how girls should carry themselves,” she says.

Mbali Zwane on the other hand, says she quit her job at a bank to follow her dream and is loving it.

“I left my job after a year and a half, because I wanted to pursue what I’m passionate about.

“I then got in touch with Monoki as I loved his work.

“And so far the experience has been great,” she says.

Most of these youngsters say though they’re studying in different fields, they’re still hoping to work in modeling and fashion professionally.
