Maseko leads Sweepers to triumph

KwaThema – Two teams that fought for three points in this week’s Springs Local Football Association's Premier League division were the Springs Home Sweepers and Young Masters teams.

The two sides came face to face at the KwaThema Sports Complex and both sides played well in a hard-fought match last Sunday.

The match was however dominated by 4-1 victors Sweepers’ captain, Anele Maseko, who showed-off astounding skills on the pitch.

By half time, the 23 year-old had already scored two goals for his team, putting them in the lead.

The shining star attempted to score again, inside five minutes of the second stanza – but the ball hit the cross bar.

But Masters, in not wanting to be defeated, also worked harder to catch up.

That even resulted in Banele Mahlangu (19) missing a goal after taking a free kick, which was saved by Sweepers goal keeper Thabo Masemola (21).

Masemola’s skills were also tested numerous times after that, as his opponents pressed to score a goal – but the young man remained firm, deflecting the ball away from the net.

After about 30 minutes, Sweepers were awarded a penalty as a result of Masters goal keeper Bob Mabena (22), receiving a yellow card for what the referee ruled as a foul in the box area.

Sweepers again pinned their hopes on Maseko, who didn’t disappoint by scoring their third goal.

After a long fight and attempts in the second half, Sibusiso Nobela (19) of Masters finally managed to score their opening goal.

The victory was short lived, as Maseko sneaked in his fourth goal for the day, before the blow of the final whistle.
