WATCH: Pro chefs visit KwaThema school

KwaThema – Spirits were high on Friday, when the Chefs Who Share Initiative visited Phelang LSEN School, in KwaThema, to spoil learners with lunch cooked by professional chefs from around the world.

This was the very first time in the three years since it was founded that the concept took place in Gauteng.

The initiative aims to raise funds to that will go towards youth development, among other projects,

The Veggie Box Initiative is an ongoing project which provides nutritious meals for children, nutritional education and aids in developing sustainable vegetable gardens in underprivileged communities.

Barbara Lenhard, one of the co-founders of the initiative, says giving is what keeps her going and, through this initiative, she wants to make a difference in the lives of the underprivileged youth in the country.

The festivities kicked off with the 14 chefs showing off their culinary skills in the school’s kitchen, in a quest to come up with a nutritional, but mouth-watering lunch for the learners.

The kitchen heroes were able to feed all 377 learners at the school.

The youngsters were very happy to have culinary heroes cook for them; they enjoyed their meal and even went back for seconds.

Among the chefs present was the head chef of The Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town, Jocelyn Myers-Adams, who has 22 years experience in culinary arts, having worked in kitchens around the world.

She states that this was her first time being part of this initiative, and adds that she is very privileged to be able to give back to the community.
