Seven-year-old drowns in Langaville
Langaville – On Saturday at around noon, a seven-year-old boy died after drowning in a nearby dam.
According to the EMPD spokesman, Wilfred Kgasago, it is alleged that a group of young children were playing near Vlakfontein mine dump, near Langaville Extension Three.
“While playing in the area the children then allegedly went for a swim in one of the dams in the area.
“Sadly, one section of the dam apparently contains a dangerously swampy section with cyanide-filled soil.
“It is there that one of the children drowned in the swamp, as he could not free himself from the quicksand-like muddy area of the dam,” says Kgasago.
He adds that both the community members and the EMPD officers who rushed to the scene could not save the child.
“By the time the child could be removed from the swamp it was too late and the paramedics certified him dead on the scene.
“Parents are urged to supervise their children, know their children’s whereabouts at all times and also to inform them of areas that are unsafe to venture in to play,” says Kgasago.
