No water in Duduza

Duduza – Last Thursday morning residents of Duduza woke up to no water in the area and had to go to nearby townships to get water.

The water was cut off Wednesday evening without any notification from the metro.

Again on Friday there was no water forcing local schools to dismiss students before the end of the academic day.

Residents say they are unhappy because they were not made aware of any water crisis nor notified in time to take the necessary precautions.

Spokesman of the metro, Themba Gadebe, says Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) has not implemented water restrictions in that area.

Last Wednesday, Eskom power was off in Dunnottar due to maintenance issues that they were addressing.

“Because of no power in Dunnottar our booster pump station in Dunnottar which supplies the Duduza reservoirs was also affected. No water could be pumped to Duduza the whole day.

“Our storage could only last for four hours.

“On Thursday, September 15, after 7pm we again experienced pumping problems in Duduza.

“After failing to resolve the problem the same night the problem was resolved the following morning.”

This was a localised problem affecting Roseview.

“All is in order at the moment and only one pump has been taken out for repairs.

“Normally when there are water situations lasting more than three hours, water tankers are provided to the areas affected.

“The affected areas should report to the EMM’s water and sanitation office in Duduza about areas without water or report at the Duduza Customer Care Centre.

“Currently all areas have water; we are not aware of any areas without water.

“We cannot predict any mechanical problems that might happen at the booster pump station or any burst that might occur on our network. Pumps that are out for repairs are anticipated back in within the next seven working days,” explains Gadebe.
