Church shows care

Langaville – Residents of Langaville Extension Six received vegetable parcels from El Shaddai Grace, a Duduza church, on Tuesday.

To lend a helping hand to Chidema Feeding Scheme, run by church member Charlotte Zitha, the congregation donated the vegetable parcels.

The feeding scheme supplies food parcels to underprivileged families every fortnight, to enable them to put food on the table.

Zitha says she started the feeding scheme in 2012 when she learned about the living conditions of most residents in the area.

“I took it upon myself to assist where I could, without any funding or assistance from any organisation.

“I rely on donations from individuals or supermarkets but if there is nothing coming in, I’m unable to give to the 134 residents who come to get parcels,” she explains.

Pastor Phuti Matsega, from El Shaddai Grace, says they took interest in assisting the feeding scheme after Zitha relayed the situation she is faced with, and as a church that strongly believes in giving to the disadvantaged, jumped to do the little they could.

“It is imperative for us as a church to help the poor and not only preach about giving but to also practise it by giving back to the community,” he adds.

Zitha appeals to the community and local businesses to come forward to make donations, no matter how small, to try and alleviate poverty in the community.
