EMPD arrest man with unlicensed firearm

Etwatwa - Following up on information about drug smugglers in the area, the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members stopped a motorist (36).

According to EMPD spokesman, Wilfred Kgasago, the suspect was found carrying an unlicensed firearm loaded with two live rounds.

He was immediately arrested and the recovered firearm confiscated.

“The recovery and the confiscation of the pistol took place around 9.30am on Tuesday.

“It was a chance meeting with the suspect, as the metro police were observing suspected drug dens in Etwatwa.

“The erratic driving of the suspect then caught their attention, leading the officers to stop the driver.

“An unlicensed Norinco model 213 9mm pistol with one magazine loaded with two live round were found in a jacket of the driver,” he says.

The suspect was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Etwatwa Police Station.

He is expected to appear soon in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court.
