Toilet misery for resident

Tsakane – A resident's toilet in Extension 10 Tsakane wasn’t properly erected seven years ago when toilets were put up in the area.

According to residents, toilets were erected in the informal settlement but a certain section had issues where toilets were not connected to the water supply while others were left incomplete.

Thandi Mazibuko (43) says her toilet wasn’t built straight, so she and her family have to use her neighbour’s toilet.

The resident says she is also tired of having to go all the way to her neighbour’s house to relieve herself.

“It’s unfair that a contractor can erect a structure that is evidently uneven and leave without fixing it.

“I feel undermined and not taken seriously by my local leaders,” says an angry Mazibuko.

Community leader Kenneth Manana says Mazibuko is not the only resident with this problem. There are other residents who have put forward the same issue.

“We have reported the issues to the municipality offices and also alerted the ward councillor but the problem is still not resolved.

“I fear that during bad weather the structure might collapse and injure children or anyone close by at the time,” he says.

Mazibuko says all she wants is a functional toilet she and her family can use.

The African Reporter contacted the ward councillor, Phindile Mbonani, but she had not responded at the time of publishing.
