ATM bombers flee with undisclosed amount of cash

Tsakane - Three armed suspects allegedly bombed an ATM and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

The incident took place at about 3.10am last Thursday, at Madiba Street in Extension 19.

According to police spokesman, Capt Johannes Ramphora, the complainant (age unknown) alleges that while he was on duty with a colleague, they saw three suspects approaching them.

“One of the suspects took out a firearm, pointed it to the two security guards and took them to the shopping complex toilets where they were handcuffed.

“Shorty after the guards heard a loud bang and moments later there was someone shouting from outside,” says Ramphora.

The two handcuffed guards were rescued by other colleagues.

It is, however, unclear at this stage how much the robbers were able to get away with.

Police are investigating further and no arrests have been made.
