Suspects flee with car and victim

Daveyton - A young couple visiting parents on Eighth Street in Springs were hijacked of their silver Mahindra SUV by three armed suspects.

The incident occurred at about 7pm last Thursday.

EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago explains, when the suspects raced off with the hijacked vehicle, the young woman was still inside.

She threw herself out of the speeding vehicle, sustaining minor injuries in the process.

“On getting away, the heartless criminals fired several shots at the victim, but fortunately did not find their target.

“The vehicle-tracking company was immediately informed and with the assistance of the EMPD officers, the vehicle was found to be travelling on Holfontein near Etwatwa and into Seeiso Street in Daveyton,” he says.

The vehicle was eventually abandoned along Sibeko Street in Sgodi Phola, Daveyton.

Kgasago adds all the couple’s valuables which were in the vehicle, including the woman’s handbag, were missing.

The tracking-company officials, EMPD and SAPS officers conducted a search of the area for the suspects, for a couple of hours, but no arrests were made.

The recovered vehicle was taken to SAPS Van Ryn Deep pound in Benoni.
