KwaThema has a CBD

KwaThema – KwaThema Customer Care Centre manager, Andries Nkabinde is all about development and economic empowerment for community members.

He is pleased to announce that KwaThema has a proclaimed central business district (CBD),which is known to the community as the eCentre, where you will find the CCC, the community hall and other operational businesses.

He explains that after 22 years of democracy it was high time the community had its own proclaimed CBD so investors could invest in it.

Currently an industrial hub is under way in Extension Three, which will allow informal traders and small business to formalise their establishments and curb backyard businesses.

“We are not only offering entrepreneurs space but together with the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller (GEP), we are funding small businesses in order to accelerate economic development in our community.

“So far we have funded 30 or more hair salons with R9 000 and more businesses will benefit from the programme,” explains Nkabinde.

Through the economic development programme the municipality aims to create jobs for locals and encourage entrepreneurship in the community.

“Our biggest mandate is to revitalise the township economy and emphasise the importance of supporting localowned businesses.

“We are in a process of demolishing dilapidated buildings and refurbishing some, so spaces for new businesses may be available.

“There is work being done, in terms of uplifting the people of KwaThema,” he says.

Nkabinde also highlights the service delivery to the community, saying major road constructions has been taking place, there are healthcare facilities in every ward and the response time to community issues has improved drastically.

“We acknowledge the fact that housing and seeping water in some homes is still an issue and we are addressing those issues.

“We have appointed consultants to try and solve the issue of seeping water, because most parts of KwaThema is built on wetlands,” he adds.

Nkabinde also urges community members not to partake in violent protests as that scares potential investors who want to bring money into the community.
