Soccer supporters donate to senior citizens

Tsakane – In commemoration on June 16, the Kaizer Chiefs Greater Brakpan Branch members visited the Tsakane Old Age Home oldies.

The visit was aimed at spending some time with the senior citizens and to donate some much needed essentials to them.

Chairman of the branch Richard ‘Rasta’ Zwane shared that they chose to visit the home on this day as some of these elderly are the ones who were part of the struggle.

“Some of these seniors don’t have families anymore, so we want them to know that they are still loved by the community and that they are not forgotten.

“We hope to make this a continuous effort and would like people to join in with us,” he said.

The seniors sang to celebrate the donation of toiletries that was given by the team as they were entertained in song and dance.

“Our branch based in Tsakane, decided to give back to some of its elderly members through our community outreach programme on June 16.

“Though this was the first time doing such an initiative, our plans are to go and visit more places such as this one in our communities, hence our next visit will be to help out at a crèche in the area.

“We hope that this donation of toiletries will make some difference to the seniors, as this is somethingwe are encouraged to do by management of our team, of sharing the little we do have with the community,” added disciplinary committee member Freddy Ramango of this branch.

Home administrator Refiloe Moreriane thanked the group for the visit, their time and the donation saying that as an organisation they appreciate the help as they are always in need of any help from the community members or businesses.

“This donation is a great help to us as it makes our elderly feel appreciated since some of them have no families and since some of them were part of the 1976 struggle.

“We have 30 seniors who reside here daily and in most cases, some of them are people who have been neglected and abused hence they end up here.

“To ensure we give them the appropriate care, we are always urge community members and local business to assist them and us with toiletries, cleaning materials, heaters and blankets donations to make our seniors’ stay a pleasant one,” she said.
