One stop shop in KwaThema #Makingit

KwaThema – Local foodies, Orene Maphosa-Mnguni and Dora Sondiyazi have created a one stop shop you will definitely want to visit.

The two ladies offer the community scrumptious meals and they also hire out catering material for any event possible.

Lead by their love of food and people, the duo decided, about two years ago, that it was time to put a fresh spin on take-away.

So, in November 2014, their journey into entrepreneurship began as they opened the doors of ‘Gud and Friendly, Training and Project’ situated at the KwaThema Civic Centre.

On the food front, the shop offers various dishes, including grilled meat and chips, plates of pap/rice, salads and meat or your typical russians or viennas and chips.

When it comes to catering materials, you can get gas stoves, tents, chairs and tables among other things.

“At first we wanted to hire out catering materials to the community, but then we also thought of food, so we ventured into both.

“Business has been okay though at times it is slow, as challenges we faced were marketing, capital and competition,” says Sondiyazi.

She explains further that the biggest set back for the business is that it they have not made a profit as the money they currently make is being used to pay their staff of four, of which two are permanent and the other two help out when it’s busy.

“We are still positive about the future prospects of this business despite the challenges and we thank the people who come through to support us, especially at month end and Fridays.

“It is our hope that the business will grow, that we will get more equipment and we can help to create more employment for other unemployed people.

“We remain focused as in the end we want to see our business grow so more people can know about us and what we have to offer,” she says.
