Taking soccer to another level

KwaThema – All football associations from KwaThema gathered last Sunday at the KwaThema Complex to hold discussions on forming a technical committee for the Springs Local Football Association (SLFA).

Members of the Southern Masters and Legends, Five-a-side Association and Local Schools Committee were present to be part of this important meeting, which will ensure development football takes place in KwaThema.

KwaThema has a number of football associations but is lacking a technical committee, which is the heart of any sports association.

According to regional technical manager, Innocent Mayoyo, the different associations in the Springs and KwaThema area sought to unite as football structures to elect one technical committee that will ensure the smooth running of all the football associations in the community.

“We are still lacking development in our community in terms of football. Our players are unable to excel and make it as far as regional and provincial status.

“But if we have a technical committee we will implement programmes and create opportunities for our players to take their soccer skills to a more professional level,” he said.

The meeting was just a start to what the associations want to achieve in the community.

Next week they will hold elections to vote in an SLFA technical committee which will have to turn around the dismal state of football in the community.

“Since it will be the first ever technical committee to sit in the association, we prefer members with coaching qualifications to be nominees.

“All associations will put forward names of members who they feel are eligible to sit on the committee and thereafter the votes will speak.

“We need to align ourselves with the South African Football Association’s (SAFA) vision by doing things in an orderly and professional way,” he added.
