Police hunt for duo who terrorise mother and son

KwaThema – The police are searching for two male suspects following a house robbery that took place at a KwaThema home on Sam Ngema Drive.

According to the police, on Monday morning a 57-year-old woman was at her home in the main house while her younger son (25) was sleeping in his outside room when the incident occurred.

“The complainant was in the main bedroom of the house when the accused allegedly entered through the kitchen door, walked around the house and when they found her, told her to be quiet.

“At the time one of the suspects was armed but he did not produce a firearm. However, the suspects just asked the woman where her husband and sons were,” says KwaThema police spokesman W/O David Mphali.

As the woman revealed that only her younger son was home, the suspects harshly asked for the keys to the older son’s outside room, went with her outside and ordered her to open the door and sit down in silence.

The two then searched in the room and took a black plasma TV, a black DVD player, an amplifier and a black laptop.

“The suspects further pulled out a safe from the wardrobe after they had asked for it numerous times, found it and took out the older son’s licensed firearm and 25 rounds of ammunition.

“They also took two cellphones from the main house. All the goods that were taken are estimated at about R26 000.

“As all this was happening the younger son woke up, switched on his TV and went to the outside sink to brush his teeth, saw the two guys carrying all the stolen items, which were covered in linen, but as the one suspect took out a gun he screamed for help,” adds Mphali.

The youngster was thrown to the ground and sustained an injury to his forehead. Then he was taken to his room and tied up in DVD cables, and the two suspects left.

“A neighbour who had heard the young man scream called for the police for help but when they arrived, the suspects were nowhere to be found,” he says.
