School receives donation

Duduza – In an effort to promote reading among young people, the Hyprop Foundation donated books to the learners of Thakgalang Primary School, recently.

According to school principal Malahli Nhlapho, the donation of books, estimated at about R4 000, for the school library, was made possible with the help of a parent and learner.

“We really appreciate the donation and this partnership, as the school cannot work alone, in isolation,” he says.

“Through these books, a number of our learners will benefit and it will really help them to improve their reading and research skills.

“In the future we would like to see our school having a fully fledged library, as we are currently using a classroom, which has small shelves, as a library.”

He adds that, as the school keeps growing, in the near future they might need to turn the temporary library back into a classroom, which would mean they would be back to having no functional library facility.

Freedom Ncube, of Hyprop Investment Limited, explains that three years ago the company started the foundation which is an NPO, to assist schools in the community.

“One of the employees, Joseph Sibeko, then nominated his child’s school to receive the books, which is what we have done,” he says.

“We will continue to give the school books annually, along with other improvements for the library, while we have we also have other projects planned for the future to help in developing the school and its learners.”
