Athletics encouraged in the community

KwaThema – The Kwathema Striders Athletic Club members participated in the Om Die Dam 50km race last Saturday.

Fifteen members from the club ran in the race in Hartbeespoort, where community members were present in support of the athletes.

According to team coach, Marupeng Kodisang, the average time that the athletes ran the race was five hours and 30 minutes.

“The athletes are taking every race seriously because the Comrades are just around the corner and as a club we want to do well this year,” explains the coach.

They will meet on Saturday at Corner Kgaswane and Mantse Street at 6am for a 40km training race.

Kodisang encourages all community members to come and join in the race.

“This KwaThema Striders is a community athleticsclub, hence we need the community to get involved, and those who cannot run may come and cheer the athletes on.

“We also appreciate the community’s support at races and all the parents who have sent their children to come and be a part of the club,” adds Kodisang.
