According to resident Samuel Motsepe, in 2013 they were told that there is a budget for the tarring of roads in Freedom, Zabalaza and Ak streets but to this day nothing has been done.
Residents claim it’s a nightmare when it rains because the gravel streets flood and water enters their yards and homes.
“When it rains heavily we are unable to get out of our houses and cars cannot come into the area,” says Eunice Mthetwa, a resident.
To add salt to the wound, the residents also claim that they experience sewage problems on a regular basis, which gives off a bad stench and causes insect infestations.
“These conditions are not safe for us, especially children who may contract diseases from the filthy water.
“We have reported these issues to the municipality and the ward councillor numerous times and we still wait for their assistance,” says Motsepe.
All the residents want is to be told the truth as to when the construction of the streets will begin.
The African Reporter couldn’t not reach Ward Councillor Phindi Mbonani after numerous attempts.
