Police concerned on crime increase

Duduza - The police of Duduza have issued an urgent alert to residents regarding serious and violent crimes that hit the area this past weekend.

According to the police there has been a murder and a couple of house robberies which have caused some concern.

Therefore, they urge the community to be alert and to take necessary steps to ensure their safety.

“There was a murder that occurred on Saturday evening at a tavern where a victim was shot and later died at Pholosong Hospital.

“We also had house robberies that occurred on Saturday and Sunday evening where a car, a TV, cellphones and cash were taken. Luckily in both incidents no one was injured as no shots were fired.

“In both incidents the attackers were three to four armed African males dressed in black clothing wearing balaclavas,” says police spokesperson W/O Imtiaz Yakub Rasool.

The vehicle taken in one of the robberies was subsequently recovered by Tracker in Vosloorus.

Rasool adds that though investigations are ongoing in all these incidents, any information from the community will be greatly appreciated and information can be given to Detective Capt Bheki Mhlungu on 011 730-4733.

The police also wish to ask the community to refrain from mob justice incidents.

“We do understand the anger and frustration of the community, but it must be understood that by performing such acts you make yourself inadvertently a criminal as you are committing assault or in most cases attempted murder.

“We will have no choice but to open charges and arrest persons identified in these incidents and you will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

“Mob justice is wrong and as such, often results in SAPS resources being thinned out as these criminals who now become victims, still have to be guarded whilst admitted to hospital.

“Please help us to help you and refrain from criminal activity,” he says.
