Young DJs to set The Festival alight

Along with the DJ duo, another major local band has been confirmed for the event, Desmond and the Tutus.

Voltrex is a DJ/producer duo that is determined to be one of the top South African DJ groups and specialises in big room, progressive house, future house and deep house.

The pair, Aaron Ngwenya and Nkosi Sibanda, found their love for mixing music when they were as young as 15.

Without much knowledge or experience of mixing, they taught themselves and never looked back.

Voltrex said their success could arguably be traced back to a passion for ice-skating.

They entered a Battle of the DJs event that was being held at the Northgate Ice rink in 2011.

The competition was tough, but soon Voltrex became the new resident DJs of all Tri-Ice arenas around Gauteng.

Due to the high exposure from the ice rinks, in 2013 they encountered the owner of Pure Events, who offered them a gig at one of his events, called Candy Land.

Thereafter the duo received frequent invitations to play at other events.

In 2014 and 2015 Voltrex had the privilege of working with U-Party, a well-established u-18 events company.

This gave them the opportunity to play alongside South Africa’s top artists and DJs, like LCNVL, DJ Fresh, Euphonik, Rickay, MiCasa and Shortstraw, among others.

Voltrex aren’t strangers to Benoni or St Dunstan’s, as the 2015 U-Party event at which they played was held at the school in March.

In 2015 they also opened for Cassper Nyovest at his concert, Fill Up The Dome, and joined him on his school tour campaign, Road to Fill Up The Dome, where they played at each event.

Voltrex ended their successful year of 2015 by playing at the annual matric Rage festival, where they performed on Sound Factory and Crush’s main stage.

In the same year, the two followed a course at Rise Academy, where they were taught the business aspects of following successful music careers.

Voltrex have big dreams of being one of South Africa’s top DJ/producer duos and plan to eventually broaden their horizons and become one of the world‘s most prominent DJ/producers.

The Festival will be held at St Dunstan’s College, Rynfield, on May 7.

Event promoter Paul Smith said the day would give organisations the opportunity to be involved in the delivery of the “East Rand’s premium social event”.

Tickets will go on sale at the end of February, initially from St Dunstan’s directly, but several other sponsors will also start selling closer to May.

The general entry tickets will be R100 each (children under six years enter for free) and there will be Golden Circle and backstage VIP options as well.
