Learners get sanitary towel and toiletry donation

Tsakane – From a Girl to a Woman (FGW) in conjunction with the Sophie A Kanza Foundation (SAKF) donated a year's worth of supply of sanitary towels to girls, and toiletries for boys.

The distribution ceremony was conducted at the Tsakane Old Age Home on Saturday.

Basetsane Phora of FGW says that they decided to help these learners since their primary objective is to distribute sanitary towels to young girls.

She adds that this was the first time they were able to assist the boys, as the schools are always asking to cater for them too.

“This initiative is important to us as we understand how it is like to grow up struggling to get your basic needs.

“Some of us could not even afford or have access to buying sanitary towels when growing up, because in some of our homes, we were raised by single mothers, while in other families you would find that only one person was working.

“So we know that these pad will help these girls and the year’s supply will go a long way,” she says.

Phora thanks everyone who helped them in raising funds for and making this project possible.

Louise Kanza, co-founder of the SAKF, says that in October they hosted a fashion show at the Constitutional Hill to raise funds, which were given to their various beneficiaries. Since FGW had asked for assistance, they decided to come on board to help these less-fortunate learners.

“We wanted to reach further than Johannesburg and give to those who are less fortunate, so when the call came it was the perfect time to do so.

“We want to work together with others to ensure we make a bigger difference in the communities we serve,” she says

Prudence Moloi from the Michael Zulu Primary School says they truly appreciate the help of outsiders as learners normally come from different backgrounds and teachers can do so much to help them out.
