Police hunt for rape suspect

KwaThema – The police are looking for a 32-year-old man who allegedly raped his 29-year-old cousin two weeks ago.

“It is alleged that on January 30, at about 2am, the two cousins left a local pub together, leaving behind the other people they had been partying with.

On on their way home, the guy suggested that it was better for him and the victim to go to his house as it was already too late to first drop off the woman at her house,” said the KwaThema police spokesperson, W/O David Mphali.

“She then agreed to go with him and upon arrival, she says they slept and at about 4am he woke up and asked to have intercourse with her.”

According to Mphali, the victim says she refused but the suspect overpowered her and forced himself on her.

“After the violent act, the woman fled the scene and, on the same day, went to report a case of rape at the KwaThema Police Station.

“We suspect that that the guy is on the run as police have failed to find him after several visits to his home.

“We plead with anyone with information to regarding this matter to contact W/O Tracey –Lee Wenpzel from the Springs Family Violence, Child and Protection Sexual Offences Unit on 011 365 5700,” says Mphali.
