Working together for a better education system

Poovan Chetty, education operations and support directorate - policy and planning for the Gauteng Department of Education, East District writes:

We as the Gauteng Department of Education, East District, serve the broader environment, not only in education.

We work closely with the community, who are our stakeholders in education.

Gauteng East District relies on your continuous and dedicated support that you have invested in our learners.

Our schools rely on your unconditional and devoted love .

We are still striving to achieve the best output for our learners.

Our learners have leaped many frontiers to be the leaders in the East.

As we reach new heights in the district, we need the support of the community.

Tablet retrieval has been disappointing from Grade 12s of 2015, as many have not returned these instruments.

Non-retrieval has hampered the teaching and transfer of knowledge to our current Grade 12s.

Late coming at our schools is still problematic.

Schools commence at 8am and we still have our children strolling in at 8.45am.

This needs to be curbed, as this hampers the teaching and development of our learners.

Missing the first period of the day for each week amounts to 11 full days of not being at school.

This is a lot of contact time that is lost.

Our past learners of 2015, who excelled in mathematics, physical science and accounting, we desperately need your help.

We want you to provide extra classes for our current Grade 12s.

These classes will be at your previous high schools or we will make institutions available for this purpose.

Our stakeholders, faith-based organisations and community leaders are needed to mobilise our learners to attend these additional classes.

Working as a collective partnership with the district office we can achieve our desired results for our learners.

Our theme for 2016 is “Improving Learner Performance across all grades, through Improved School Leadership, Management and Governance systems”

Let’s work together to achieve our desired goal.”
