John Dube residents dissatisfied

Duduza - Residents of John Dube say they are undermined and not taken seriously by their local leaders.

This follows the many grievances community members have about the state of their houses, which they claim are not up to standard.

Resident Khanyisile Mabaso (37) says her home is flooded with water every time it rains.

“The roofing is deteriorating and there is nothing we can do because we were told not to refurbish our homes until we receive our title deeds.

“My furniture is affected by the floods and there is nothing I can do,” says an angry Mabaso.

She further claims that she has been to the local municipal office to report the matter but was told they would send people to come and look at the roofing.

“Till today no one has come to check the roofing,” she adds.

Mabaso is not the only John Dube resident who has to endure this problem.

Thabo Motloung (36) also says his house has cracks everywhere and he fears that one day it will fall on top of him and his family during bad weather.

“All I want is for the house to be evaluated to see if it can withstand bad weather conditions.

“At the sign of storms and rain I get really alarmed because I’m not sure if I’ll still have a house,” says Motloung.

The African Reporter called Ward Clr Tiny Mabena for comment but her phone rang unanswered.
