The 20-year-old owner was busy serving customers when two armed men entered the shop and ordered everyone to lie on the floor.
The owner was shot in his upper body.
Capt Petros Mabuza, Tsakane police spokesman, says the community informed the police about the incident.
The victim was declared dead by paramedics at 8.15pm.
The armed men got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, airtime and cigarettes.
No arrests have been made.
A murder and business robbery case was opened at the police station and the police are investigating.
