Father being investigated for child abuse

KwaThema – A father has been arrested and is due to appear in the KwaThema Magistrate Court for child abuse after an incident took place on Sunday at about 7pm.

According to the KwaThema police spokesman, W/O David Mphali, the complainant who is a 27-year-old woman from Reedville, alleges that she was with her boyfriend in the car, outside her home when the father (30) of her baby came and demanded she give him their three-month-old son.

“She refused to come out of the vehicle and asked the boyfriend to drive to the police station and on arrival at the station, the father came to her and started to pull the child.

“In the process the baby got strangled between their hands and she started screaming and the father did not stop pulling the child with force from her.

“As the father was busy forcing to take the child a policeman asked him to let go of the child and had to use force to pull him away from the baby,” says Mphali.

The father was then taken into the police station and when both parents were questioned about what was going on, the father said that the infant is his child and he would take him.

A case of child abuse was opened at the KwaThema police station for further investigation.
