Residents want sports complex maintained

KwaThema - Residents of KwaThema and sports people are disappointed with the poor condition of the KwaThema Sports Complex.

Residents say the grass has not been cut for a while now and there is no water at the complex.

According to local golfer Styles Molefe, there has not been much maintenance done there since he started playing golf at the complex.

“We have been reporting the leaking water pipe for the past two years and nothing has been done regarding that,” he says.

“The taps are not running here and this makes it difficult for sports people who come and make use of the complex.”

Golf players are mostly affected because the grass is too long and they lose their golf balls.

Meshack Moutloatse says the lack of maintenance at the complex is hindering a lot of development in terms of sport, because some facilities are broken and need to be fixed.

“We want children to be able to come here and play other sports, not only soccer, because the soccer fields are the only pitches that are being maintained at the complex,” he explains.

“The only sport that is being taken note of is soccer, whereas there are basketball and netball courts that also need to be maintained.”

The African Reporter contacted the Ekurhuleni Metro for comment, but they failed to respond by the time of going to print.
