Local aspires to become a professional body builder

Duduza – Bongani Madonsela (35) is working hard with the hope of turning his love and passion for body building into a career one day.

“The ability and talent are there; only support is still a missing link to produce world class body builders from Duduza,” says Thulani Radebe, the owner of Perfect Body Vision Gym in Duduza, where Madonsela has been training for more than 20 years.

Like Madonsela, most of the young people at the gym are aspiring to participate in local, regional and national weight lifting contests annually and hope to compete internationally one day, but they are discouraged by lack of support for the sport in townships.

“I have been chasing this goal since 1996, to build a body ready for any type of contest, especially the internationally weightlifting league.

“But in order for me to build my body for competition’s standard, I have to continuously monitor my diet and take relevant supplements regularly to help the muscle develop further, but can’t maintain that lifestyle as I’m unemployed,” says Madonsela.

His wish is to participate in as many weightlifting contests as possible this year and, as a result, he has already started training for the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival which will take place at Sandton Convention Centre from May 27 to 29.

With the ability, talent and love of the sport that Modonsela has, Radebe believes that with a little helping hand his body building career can blossom.

“All that Mondonsela needs in order to develop to the standard he seeks to reach is at least 5kg of massive muscle supplement per month, which are costly.

“In addition, he also needs to maintain a proper diet that consists of fruits, eggs, meat and vegetables daily,” said Radebe.

He is appealing to anyone who can support sport development in Duduza to start with people like Madonsela who are serious about their goals.
