Man stabbed and hijacked

KwaThema – A 25-year-old suspect is due to appear in court after being arrested at Kgaswane and Joe Mzamane streets in an open field, in connection with a hijacking that took place in KwaThema on Saturday morning.

According to EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago, at about 10am, a man (age unknown) was hijacked by five suspects.

“On Saturday morning the owner of a Mazda was stopped by five attackers, who stabbed and hijacked his vehicle.

“The victim was kept in the vehicle after being attacked.

“He then overheard his attackers talking about how he should be tossed into a nearby mine shaft and the quick-thinking victim saw metro police officers doing point duty at the intersection, and screamed for help,” he says.

The officers called for backup, traced the vehicle and when the suspects saw that they were close to being caught, they abandoned the car and fled the scene on foot.

The EMPD were able to apprehend one of the suspects, who was then detained at the KwaThema Police Station and charged for hijacking and assault with grievous bodily harm.

The injured victim was rushed to the Pholosong Hospital for medical treatment as he had sustained several stab wounds.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear in the Springs Magistrates Court today (Monday).

Kgasago adds that further investigations are underway to bring to book all the suspects involved in this crime.
