WATCH: Highs and lows of KwaThema matric results

Some of the schools in KwaThema have performed well with their matric pass rate, passing the provincial pass rate of 84% in the 2015 National Senior Certificate results.

Tlakula High School’s pass rate has decreased from 76.4% to 72.44%.

It achieved 39 bachelors passes, 60 diplomas, 43 higher certificates and 23 distinctions.

Of 200 matrics, 142 passed.

Deputy principal Michael Nsibanyoni says the school percentage dropped due to the many progressed learners they had and as a result all of them didn’t make it.

“Thank you to the staff, learners and parents for working hard to reach this success,” he says.

Laban Motlhabi Comprehensive High School‘s pass rate dropped from 79% to 70.4%.

The school attained the lowest pass rate in KwaThema.

The students attained 19 bachelors passes, 31 diplomas, 19 higher certificates and four distinctions.

In total there were 99 matriculants and 69 passed.

Principal Orlando Mpatlanyane says he is not happy with the results as they have dropped a lot.

“We need to pull up our socks and work harder this year,” he says.

Lefa-Ifa Secondary School saw an increased pass rate of 87.38% from 74% in the previous year.

Learners received 23 bachelors, 61 diplomas, 13 higher certificates and 13 distinctions.

Out of 113 learners who wrote the exams, 97 passed.

Deputy principal Mzanywa Shongwe says they are happy with their results as it shows consistency since, over the past five years, they have been improving with their results.

“We have been doing well purely because of hard work and since we are competing with no one but ourselves as a school.

“In the end our ultimate goal is to end up reaching 100% and to change the community’s perception of our school,” he says.

Nkumbulo Comprehensive School saw an increased pass rate of 73.65% from 61.5% during the previous year.

They received 27 bachelors, 57 diplomas, 39 higher certificates and nine distinctions.

The school had 171 candidates who wrote the exams and and 123 passed.

Principal Henry Nankumba says he is happy to have improved from last year’s result and hopes that they can keep it up.

Phulong Secondary School came out tops in the whole of KwaThema with an impressive increased pass rate of 91.25% compared to the 79.4% in 2014.

The school had 184 students who wrote their matric and 167 managed to pass.

They scooped 64 bachelors, 68 diplomas, 35 higher certificates and 16 distinctions.

Principal Jabulani Nyoni says he is very proud of the school’s performance and he would like to thank all the teachers, the School Governing Body and children for all the effort they put in.

 

Zimisele Secondary School experienced a minor dip in their pass rate after receiving 82.35%.

In 2014 the school’s pass rate stood at 86.17%.

The students got 39 bachelors, 36 diplomas, 23 higher certificates and 22 distinctions.

Out of 119 matrics who wrote sat the final examinations, 98 passed.

Principal Dempsey Noge says they are happy about the performance of the learners though there is a bit of disappointment by the slight drop.

“This means we must just work harder this year and do better,” he says.
