Supervise children

Parents and guardians are urged to look out for their children and to ensure that they are always under adult supervision over the holidays to avoid them going missing.

And should a child go missing it, Tsakane police spokesperson Capt Petros Mabuza, says parents and guardians should report this to law enforcement officers at their nearest police station urgently.

  • If you go shopping with your children keep an eye on them as they might disappear in the crowd.
  • Always check on where your child is, especially when they are playing outside the yard.
  • Have contact details of the parents or guardians of where your child goes to play regularly.
  • Know the exact whereabouts of your child at all times.
  • Should you suspect your child has gone missing, rush to police station with their recent photo and as much relevant information as possible.
  • Know exactly what your child is wearing when they leave the house.
  • Make sure that your child knows their full names and surname, physical address, your names and your contact numbers.
  • And if your children will be at home alone while you are at work, get them into the habit of locking the doors when they are inside the yard for safety reasons.

Mabuza adds that the police will also be dealing with underage children, that are found drinking in public spaces.
