Langaville residents tired of waiting for RDP houses

Tsakane – The community of Langaville Extension Six is tired of living in shacks while, they say, they have RDP houses that they claim are occupied by people illegally.

According to Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) community leader Judy Morabele senior citizens and other community members have been waiting for their RDP homes for over 20 years. They say these houses are completed.

“There are over 50 elderly residents who are living in shacks and their RDP homes are occupied by other people who claim they own the houses without any proof,” says Morabele.

David Sampa (67) is one of the many elderly residents whose home is allegedly occupied by a resident unlawfully.

Sampa has all the documentation that proves that he is the lawful owner of a RDP house in Extension Six.

“I have tried numerous times to move into the house that was said to be mine but failed, I have been to the police and the Human Settlement offices but nothing has been done,” he says.

Sampa is one of many residents who are tired of living in shacks whereas they have houses but these are occupied by other people.

He says he is tired of living in a shack that leaks when it rains and he fears he will end up dying without owning his very own home.

“As a community we are willing to fight for people who don’t have a voice.

“We are calling on leaders and ward councillors of the community to sort out this problem before it gets out of hand,” says Morabele.

The community of Extension Six will hold their last meeting regarding the housing issue this coming Saturday in Langaville Extension and thereafter they plan to act forcefully.

Ward councillor Mthumeleni Ndita was unavailable when the African Reporter contacted him for comment.
